The most illustrious tv family is finally back again into our lives with the launch of the all new All in the family complete dvd set boxed that comes complete finally with all the television shows episodes including the 2 hour long pilot episode as well as the season finale in which all characters have a teary reunion and in which Archie Bunker gets shot. It is definitely not often and quite rare that a television show transcends boundaries and seeks to explore new or off color topics such as racism, rioting and raunchy behavior sometimes all in just one 30 minute episode.

All in the family strove to do just that and more. Often depicting society at its worst, the Archie Bunker family would seek to outdo one another with their antics and tantrums from the start of each episode and often ending killing off one another by the end only to be magically resurrected by the next episode. Amazingly enough, this sitcom managed to last 8 years before its plug was kindly pulled in the summer of 1979. However, Archie Bunker survived and plodded along for another 4 years under the guise of a new sitcom called quite innovatively - Archie Bunker's place.

The location on which the subsequent new Archie Bunker sitcom was located out of was run down and rather debilitated, in fact, as the title suggested, it was more like a bunker than a real home. Nonetheless, that did not stop Archie Bunker and his new family and friends from rehashing the theme of All in the Family, which involved challenging societal norms and raising the bar on public decency levels. Viewers were more than shocked each week by the various antics and indeed many new low levels of debasement which the cast and crew sunk to during each new episode.

Thankfully the episodes from the new sitcom are not included in the All in the family complete dvd set boxed, as there were copyright and moral issues which were unable to be overcome at the time of launch. The All in the Family show managed to influence American culture strongly during the time that it was on air. It was the first time that a show based on culture managed to become part of culture, however, it was certainly not the last time that a television show would be able to do that as evident by the numerous reality tv series shows that are exploding on to the color box in our living room every single day.

The title All in the Family when taken out of context manages to make most people uncomfortable, however, it simply refers to Archie Bunker's favorite past time of playing scrabble with his family members. Archie never liked playing with other people who are not members of his family, hence the scrabble games and yearly tournaments were strictly kept all in the family. This naturally meant that Archie was usually the victor in almost all games that were played as he was the one who set the rules and regulations and insisted that all players complied with the words taken from his very own personal dictionary. He therefore managed to contribute again to American culture by giving us first the words - swagger, dash and dandy. Indeed he contributed many other colorful words which we will not mention for the sake of public decency. All in the family complete dvd set boxed however does have the entire list of words he came up with, just another great reason for you to get one set today, though you probably do not need another.
